Tell our stories, said the Tulip Poplar tree.

The request came to Amanda Nicole more than ten years ago when her relationship with the Tulip Poplar tree was just beginning. At the time, Amanda thought the stories to be told belonged only to the Tulip Poplar tree, but time taught her that the stories to be told belonged to the tree, to her, and even to all of humanity. The stories were indeed Our Stories, the  telling of a shared reality. 

 

When Amanda completed writing I AM the Tree, a memoir of the life danced by and between Amanda Nicole and the Tulip Poplar tree, she considered what publisher might welcome the story of a girl and her tree. On a summer morning, she stood behind her home. Surrounded by trees, she listened as their verdant voices rustled in the breeze.
